What is PAIS?
The Preliminary Aid Information System (PAIS) is designed to allow high school and college students (freshman through senior) to estimate student financial aid eligibility information through an easy to use electronic system. By completing this worksheet, the student will receive information about his or her Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
Eligibility for financial aid
Eligibility for financial aid is the amount that remains after the student's Expected Family Contribution is subtracted from the cost of attendance. The cost of attendance is the amount that the institution estimates the student will spend to attend college for the academic year. Please contact the financial aid office at the college or university you plan to attend to determine the cost of attendance. The cost of attendance includes the college/university tuition charge, various campus-based fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous personal expenses.
What will this program do?
Once you have entered your response to the last question, this program will tell you the student's estimated Expected Family Contribution. (Financial aid eligibility criteria are subject to legislative changes which may affect the estimate provided.) Please note, if the student is not a resident of the state of Washington, the amounts of grants and/or loans may be affected.
Students should not eliminate any college under consideration as a result of this estimate. Instead, keep all college options open and discuss any financing concerns directly with college financial aid officials.
